Father, Axel; mother, Annie, are both retired; brother, Eric; sister, Inga.
Plays tennis right-handed but is actually left-handed.
Served as a ballboy for Marat Safin at Scheveningen, NED Challenger, where he went on to win title in 2016 and have a court named after him.
Idol growing up was Andre Agassi.
Favourite surface is clay.
Voted ATP Comeback Player of the Year in 2010.
Member of ATP Player Council from 2012-14 and 2018-19.
Enjoys reading, movies, hanging out with friends and being in nature.
Loves all sports, including basketball and ice hockey.
Underwent right knee surgeries in July 2008 and May 2009.

Returned in 2009 following 2 right knee surgeries and went from unranked to career-high No. 33 in 2012 after winning 2nd consecutive Kitzbuhel title.
Reached 1st ATP Masters 1000 SF at 2017 Montreal, then earned biggest wins of career over No. 4 A. Zverev in both 2017 ATP Masters 1000 Paris 2R and 2018 ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati 2R.
Peaked at No. 30 in doubles with 6 titles, as well was runner-up finishes at 2013 Australian Open w/Sijsling, 2014 Rome w/F. Lopez, 2019 Monte Carlo w/Koolhof and 2019 Montreal w/Koolhof.
Owns 150-67 Challenger record with 13 titles and wins over past or present Top-10 players Grosjean, Tipsarevic and Tsitsipas.
Former World No. 3 junior reached 2005 Wimbledon boys’ singles final and 2004 Wimbledon boys’ doubles final w/Troicki.
