A Netherlands-centric doubles showpiece did not disappoint on Sunday afternoon at the Open Occitanie in Montpellier.
Robin Haase and Botic van de Zandschulp ultimately prevailed 6-7(7), 6-3, 10-5 against Tallon Griekspoor and Bart Stevens to claim their first ATP Tour crown together at the indoor hard-court ATP 250. Haase and van de Zandschulp rallied from a set and a break down to win just the second all-Dutch ATP Tour doubles final after Hendrik Jan Davids and Paul Haarhuis defeated Richard Krajicek and Jan Siemerink in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 1991.
Despite letting slip a set point before losing the opening tie-break and then being broken for 2-3 in the second set, Haase and Van de Zandschulp reeled off four straight games to level the match before recovering from 0/3 in the Match Tie-break. They wrapped their 95-minute win having converted two of five break points they earned, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
It marked a second Montpellier title for Haase, who also triumphed at the French ATP 250 in 2023 with Matwe Middelkoop. The 37-year-old is now a nine-time tour-level titlist, while Van de Zandschulp earned his second ATP Tour doubles crown following his 2022 triumph with Griekspoor.
