Competing together for the first time since their Antwerp title run in October, Petros Tsitsipas and Stefanos Tsitsipas fell to a narrow defeat Tuesday in the Australian Open first round.
In a 7-5, 7-5 loss to Daniel Altmaier and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, the brothers missed out on eight break points — including four that doubles as set points in the first set. Altmaier and Reyes-Varela won the final three games in each set of the victory and advanced despite 10 aces from their Greek opponents.
Sixth-seeded Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni cruised into the second round with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Pedro Cachin and Roberto Carballes Baena, while 13th-seeded Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin beat Argentines Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-4, 6-1.
In the lone three-set match of Tuesday's early doubles action in Melbourne, Frenchmen Quentin Halys and Adrian Mannarino outlasted Julian Cash and Robert Galloway 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.
