Holger Rune was the star of the second episode of Break Point Season 2, in which Carlos Alcaraz was also featured.
Alcaraz conducted a Spanish interview for Netflix, and the No. 2 player in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings had bold words for the Lexus ATP Head2Head rivalry he is building with Rune.
“Holger is a very difficult player, he’s also coming up really quickly and I know that we will have battles like Djokovic, Federer and Nadal did when they were younger for all those years,” Alcaraz said. “All the hard work, all the sacrifices made have been worth it just to reach this point.”
One of the key moments of the episode came when the pair met in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. Alcaraz won a tightly contested match 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-4 and went on to win his second major title.
“I was excited. I was feeling good physically,” Rune said. “I was ready to do everything I could do in my power to win, but he was dealing with the nerves better than I was. He just played better in the important moments.”
Rune was not the only player who had high praise for Alcaraz. In one scene, fellow Break Point star Frances Tiafoe made a funny remark about the effect a practice between the two had on his game.
“Dude, I have one practice with you and I’m winning matches!” Tiafoe said.
Every Alcaraz performance is firmly under the microscope. But the Spaniard revealed how he blocks out any outside noise.
“Play aggressive, that is my style. Play with joy,” Alcaraz said. “I don’t have people telling me you have to achieve that, or you have to win all the matches. I try not to think about that, but about me, my team and my family.
“Therefore, I don’t feel that pressure.”
