Was born in Belgium, where he lived forthree years before moving to France.
Began playing tennis aged four in Aix en Provence. There was a tennis club next to his house, so he began playing during holidays and enjoyed it.
Left home for one year when he was 12 to go to Poitiers for the “Pole France” tennis training programme.
Father is operations director for a shipping company and mother is an Italian teacher. Has two sisters and one brother.
Speaks French, Italian and English. Nickname is Lucho.
Won the 2021 Roland Garros boys' singles title.
Cracked the world's Top 100 in April 2023 aged 18.
He grew up idolising Roger Federer, who won his first major title 10 months before the Frenchman was born.
It was important for him to continue his education while competing as a professional tennis player. He is studying mathematics through Paris Dauphine University.
Has won three ATP Challenger Tour titles as of April 2023. Since 2016, the only players to win at least three Challenger titles before their 19th birthday are Van Assche, Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune.
He enjoys watching football and is a fan of Paris Saint Germain. Favourite athlete is Kylian Mbappé.
Favourite book is L’Etranger by Albert Camus, movie is Gladiator, TV show is Prison Break and actor is Kevin Hart.
Says his best quality is that he is a hard worker and his worst quality is that he is impatient.

Former junior World No. 1 broke into Top 200 in November 2022, entered Top 100 in April 2023 and achieved career-high No. 63 in October 2023 before reaching 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals SF.
Earned 1st Grand Slam main draw win at 2023 Roland Garros over 2018 semi-finalist Cecchinato in 1R and defeated No. 28 Musetti for biggest win of career to reach 3R at 2024 Australian Open.
Qualified for the 2024 and 2023Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF.
Advanced to ATP Tour QFs at 2023 Hamburg on clay and 2023 Metz on indoor hard court.
Saved 2 championship points to defeat Humbert at 2023 Pau in longest ATP Challenger final in history (3h56m).
Posted 29-19 Challenger record in 2022 (1-3 in finals), going on a 19-6 run from late September to December, reaching finals of Lisbon, Brest and Valencia before winning first title in Maia.
Defeated fellow countryman Fils to win the 2021 Roland Garros boys’ singles title and ended junior career with a 79-27 record.
