    • Began playing tennis at age 5 with his grandmother.
    • Father, Ainars, is an investment businessman and former basketball player; mother, Milena, is a theatre actress; sisters, Elina, Laura and Monika; brother, Kristaps.
    • Grandfather, Alvils, was a starter on former Soviet Union national basketball team that won European Championships.
    • Speaks Latvian, Russian, English and a little German.
    • Considers serve and backhand drop shot as his best shots.
    • Enjoys playing football, basketball and hockey.
    • Used to work with former ATP pro Niki Pilic and trained at Pilic's academy in Munich from age 12-18.
    • Wife, Tamara. Became a father in March 2018.
    • Struggled with right wrist injury over course of 2015-17 seasons.

    • Achieved career-high No. 10 on 9 June 2014 after run to Roland Garros SF. Broke into Top 50 on 8 October 2007 following Mons, BEL Challenger title and Top 100 on 26 February 2007 following Besancon, FRA Challenger title.Earned 1st ranking point at age 15 on 5 July 2004 following Challenger debut at Zell, GER as WC.
    • Owns 6-1 record in ATP Tour finals, capturing most recent titles in 2014 at Marseille and Nice. Posted double-digit win totals in 9 straight seasons (2007-15), highlighted by 41-win effort in 2014. Enjoyed successful ATP debut at 2006 St. Petersburg as WC, beating Czechs Vik, Dlouhy and Hernych en route to SF.
    • Posted best Grand Slam results at Roland Garros, defeating Federer in 5 sets en route to 2014 SF. Also advanced to Roland Garros QF in 2008.
    • As World No. 589 in 2017, became lowest-ranked player to advance to Wimbledon 3R since unranked Kiefer in 2007. Qualified at 2018 Wimbledon and reached 4R with 5-set wins over Clarke, Dzumhur and A. Zverev.
    • Defeated No. 1 Federer en route to 2010 ATP Masters 1000 Rome SF and No. 2 Murray to reach 2013 ATP Masters 1000 Montreal QF. Advanced to 5 other ATP Masters 1000 QFs, most recently 2015 Montreal as Q.
