Former Top 20 star Albert Ramos-Vinolas announced on Sunday that he will retire this season.
“During the last few months I felt my body is not able to perform at its best anymore, so it’s time to accept the end of my professional career,” The 37-year-old wrote on social media. “My heart wants to keep going, it loves tennis and competition, but my head says everything has an ending point and you better accept it.
“New challenges and dreams will come. I don’t feel ready to say where will I play my last tennis match, it’s a hard move to take, but I’m sure this will be my last season. All these years have been incredible: tough losses, massive wins, hard times because I was always hungry for more, friends around the world, a loyal team by my side… As a whole, it’s been better than I ever dreamed.
“Thanks everyone, I felt your support. Now it’s time to enjoy the last matches. See you on court, as always.”
The Spaniard made his tour-level debut in Barcelona in 2010 and lifted ATP Tour titles in Bastad, Gstaad, Estoril and Cordoba. The four-time champion reached a career-high No. 17 in the PIF ATP Rankings in May 2017 and has record eight Top 10 wins, including victories against Roger Federer and Andy Murray.
