Rafael Nadal is set to open his 2024 ATP Tour season at the Brisbane International presented by Evie. It will be a much-anticipated return for all tennis fans, and even more so for spectators in Brisbane, who have only had the chance to watch Nadal compete in the city once before.
In his lone previous appearance at the ATP 250, Nadal won two matches to reach the quarter-finals before losing a three-setter to Milos Raonic. Though Nadal fell short in the match, he still managed to put on a show for the crowd. A dramatic three-shot pass brought Brisbane to its feet as the Spaniard went into overdrive to find a way beyond his opponent at the net.
Nadal's return to the Australian city will see him play a tour-level event for the first time since the 2023 Australian Open. Last year in Melbourne, Nadal suffered an hip injury that forced him to miss the rest of the season.
After patiently navigating a long and challenging road to recovery, Nadal is ready to step back into competition ahead of what he has hinted could be his farewell season. While the Spaniard is tempering expectations, tennis fans have learned that Nadal can never be counted out if he steps on the court.
