Shortly after saving two championship points to beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a thrilling singles final Sunday at the Delray Beach Open, Miomir Kecmanovic completed a sweep of the titles at the ATP 250 by teaming with Brandon Nakashima to win the doubles crown.
The Serbian-American duo defeated Americans Christian Harrison and Evan King 7-6(3), 1-6, 10-3 in the trophy round, making Kecmanovic the fourth man to win the event's singles and doubles titles after Xavier Malisse (2007), Jan-Michael Gambill (2001), and Todd Woodbridge (1995). The 25-year-old Kecmanovic is the first Serbian to claim both titles at the same ATP Tour event and the first overall since Aussie Jordan Thompson achieved the feat last year in Los Cabos.
Nakashima, 23, is the youngest Delray Beach doubles champion since Jack Sock (20) in 2013.
The unseeded duo, playing its first event together as a team, saved two match points in the quarter-finals to beat Aussies Rinky Hijikata and Adam Walton. They won Match Tie-breaks in each of the final three rounds.
In the final, both teams created five break chances, according to Infosys ATP Stats. Despite losing both break points they faced in set two, Nakashima and Kecmanovic immediately re-asserted themselves in the Match Tie-break. The champions raced to leads of 3/0 and 7/1 in the pivotal tie-break before closing out victory in one hour, 26 minutes.
Kemanovic is now a two-time doubles champion on the ATP Tour; at 2-1 in tour-level finals, he won the 2022 Los Cabos title with William Blumberg. Nakashima was competing in his first ATP Tour doubles final after earning consecutive tour-level doubles wins for the first time this week.
The teammates finished the week in consecutive positions in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, with Nakashima at No. 41 and Kecmanovic at No. 42.
