Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from Serbia's Davis Cup Qualifiers First Round tie against Denmark, which will begin Friday in Copenhagen.
The former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals. But the 37-year-old retired after one set of his match against Alexander Zverev due to injury.
Djokovic later revealed that he had suffered a muscle tear in his left leg.
"Towards the end of that first set I just started feeling more and more pain. It was, yeah, too much, I guess, to handle for me at the moment," Djokovic said that evening in Melbourne. "Unfortunate ending, but I tried."
The Serbian team will be led by Miomir Kecmanovic, 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF champion Hamad Medjedovic, Laslo Djere, Ivan Sabanov and Matej Sabanov. Holger Rune headlines the Danish side.
