Argentine qualifier Roman Andres Burruchaga made a dream ATP Tour debut Tuesday in Cordoba, defeating his country's flag bearer Diego Schwartzman in a tight three-setter.

Burruchaga squandered three match points when serving for the win in the final game but took advantage of a litany of rally-ball unforced errors from Schwartzman to secure the 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at his fourth attempt.

"I'm really happy with my victory here in Cordoba," Burruchaga said. "It was a tough match against a great player like Diego. I was a little bit nervous at the end of the match but fortunately I won."

Seventh-seeded German Yannick Hanfmann had a happier outing Tuesday, rallying from a set and 1-4 down to defeat Peru's Juan Pablo Varillas, fresh off Davis Cup duty in Chile, 5-7, 7-6(1), 6-1. Varillas paid the price for putting just 45 per cent of first serves into play, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
