Carlos Alcaraz will headline the field at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in April, where Casper Ruud will return to defend his title.

The No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Alcaraz will make his first appearance at the clay-court ATP 500 since he lifted back-to-back trophies in 2022-23. The Spaniard owns an impressive 10-1 record at the tournament and will aim to maintain that form as the top seed at this year’s edition.

It All Adds Up

By triumphing in Barcelona in 2024, Ruud claimed the biggest tour-level title of his career. The Norwegian will be joined in the field by fellow former champion Kei Nishikori, who has received a wild card. The Japanese former World No. 4 will hope to draw on the fond memories he holds on the Spanish coast, where he notably won consecutive titles in 2014-15.

Three-time major winner Stan Wawrinka will also compete as a wild card, marking his first appearance at the ATP 500 since 2009. The 16-time tour-level champion boasts a 12-5 record at the event, having reached the semi-finals on two occasions.

Home favourite Pablo Carreno Busta completes the trio of wild cards in Barcelona. The 33-year-old fell to Alcaraz in the championship match in 2022, and will return for the first time since suffering an elbow injury that sidelined him for almost a year and a half.

The 2025 edition will take place from 14-20 April at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.
